Foreign workers which were initially brought into Brunei Darussalam by the British  Residents in order to occupy basic positions in the national administration had tremendous effect on the country. The total number of the foreign workers increases continually since various type of economic activities evolved under the British planning. It cannot be denied that the increase of the number of foreign workers in Brunei has been corresponding to its development of economic activities. This can be analysed through the observation on the various economic activities in Brunei and its relationship with the increase and the decrease of the number of foreign workers from 1906 until 1959. As such, this paper discusses the effect of the arrival of foreign workers towards national development.
